REFLECTION
Experience
In this Semester, we had learned about more advance typography. We started practising working on projects with images and also concept for events. It feels this semester we learned more about how to present your ideas and concept with collateral. We also practised designing fonts but this time, a bit more detailed and we have to present them with collateral as well Our lecturer had also provided a lot of articles, resources and books for us to read.
We did have a few physical class this week which I was quite happy and excited about because I feel like I can focus more in physical class. But due the rise of Covid cases we did ended going back to online class for the last few weeks.
Observation
The whole process has been very fun. I was very excited to work on project 1 and project 2 because for both of those project you would have to work on collateral, and it always feels so satisfying to see your work being used in real world object, even though it is just a concept.
Even though we're in Advance Typography now I am still making a lot of beginner mistakes. Honestly it made me quite worried and I feel like I need to practise more and spend more of my own time learning.
Finding
One thing I realised is that just because you focus a lot and work hard in class it doesn't mean you can relax on free time, you still won't be good at it. Of course you have be hardworking and focus during class, but you need to practise design on your own free time. I realised that there is still so much more for me to learn and I am definitely still just a rookie and doesn't know much about design. I am still making a lot of basic typography mistakes that shouldn't be made by now. This is why I had started the doing 1 poster a day for 1 year challenge to just practise, I had made so many bad posters but I try to constantly remind myself that it doesn't matter, what matter is that I am trying to push myself to practise and be productive.
I had learnt a lot in this class, I've learn how to communicate and present my ideas better, how to develop critical thinking skills and how to critique and judge your own work. Typography has always been my favourite class and I'm actually quite sad that it's over. But there is still a lot of things to be excited about in the next few semester. One of my weakness is I am just terrible at animation, I don't know how to use after effect so in this semester this weakness really restrict me from transforming better ideas. So I'm excited to learn about kinetic typography after this semester is over and see how it goes in the future.
