What have I learnt in this module?
In this module I learnt about Design Research Methodology. I've learned a lot of things such as how to write better, communicate better verbally. I also learned how to develop critical thinking skills, even though I am still very bad at it, but it has been very helpful.
What did I enjoy the most?
Honestly I enjoyed experiencing the research process. I never really had an opinion and a lot of times my thinking are influenced by my friends. This module forces me to form my own though process and critical thinking, it was very hard and I feel like I am not in my comfort zone, but because I feel uncomfortable I know that I am pushing myself and trying to be better so that really helps motivate me to keep going.
What did I not enjoy the most?
The only thing I did not enjoy is having online classes for this module. We had a few physical class but due the rises of Covid cases, we had to go back to online.
What have I learnt about myself through this module?
I learned that I am really bad at writing and communicating verbally. This is something that I really improved on. I also learned that just because a subject isn't related to design, it does not mean it's pointless. It doesn't hurt to learn more and there are some valuable things that you can learn and combine it with what you love as well.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
During the first few weeks of the module I was just really not interested because I just want to design stuff and I always has been very bad at reading. I'm a terrible reader and writer, I can never handle a huge amount of text because it gives me headache and i do not have the patience. That is why I would always go to youtube where it provides audio and visuals to help me learn. But I realised as we were working on the critical review, my mindset changed. At first my mindset was "Well this module is not helping me, I know my career path and what I wanted to do, I don't need this." But then it changed to, "This is actually helping me to improve my writing skills, I always have suffered from communicating. This module allows me to experience the research process, improve my communications skills which are very important skills to have when you are a designer working with a team. It doesn't hurt to learn more, I became a better version of myself than I was before and that's what matters."
Instead of just thinking it as a module I have to take, I started thinking about the value it can provide me and how I can combine these skillsets with designs and become an even valuable designer. It made me realised that even though some modules may not be design related, it doesn't mean that it's pointless. It does not hurt to learn more things and constantly improve myself. It's possible to combine it with what you love as well, for example I love design, and after combining Research Methodology with Designs it had made me enjoy the research process even more. I think this a big change in my mindset for learning things, now I'm starting to feel like there is so much more exciting things to learn, I used to really hate business and history class, but I'm starting to think that there are some valuable things that I can learn from those subject and combine it with Design.
