Professional Development Week is an event organized by Taylor's to help and give us guidance on understand working and industry life, the event provides a variety of workshops base on different topic in different industry.
Workshop I have attended
- "Financial Literacy for Fresh Graduates" by Maybank
- "Best Practices in Personal Branding Strategy via LinkedIn" by PwC
- "The Power of I.P. (Intellectual Property) Monetization" by Stive Asia
- "Storyteller: Lessons from the Father of Malaysian Animation Industry" by Filmic Entertainment
- "Life of a Producer in the Video Production Industry" by Lokalab
- "Post-Pandemic: Growth of Travel and Tourism Industry" by agoda
"Financial Literacy for Fresh Graduates - Maybank"
I don't really know much about stocks and investment and I do struggle quite a bit with it. So this workshop is really helpful for someone like me. The workshop definitely helped me understand the concepts of stock and investment more and it really motivates me to start trying as well. Overall the workshop was very informative, detailed and helpful, the speaker was really friendly and tries his best to answer our question and guide us to do it in a safe and efficient way.
"Best Practices and Personal Branding Strategy using Linkedln-PWC"
Even though I do have an account for Linkedln, it's not really that active. I did not really see the point of it because in the design industry people focuses more on the portfolio itself. But at the end of the day, it is still important to work on your personal branding as it plays quite a huge part for your career as well. This actually helps me to understand myself more and discover myself. The workshop was very detailed and insightful, using real world examples and explaining not just the personal branding part but also the industry perspective.
"Storyteller: Lessons from the Father of Malaysian Animation Industry-Filmic Entertainment"
I mainly specialises in Graphic Design and I have always felt that animation is very complicated. Still I am very interested to know more about it this workshop was perfect for me. it was very interesting to see the artist thought process and how they look at things. I don't really pay much attention to the creative scene in Malaysia so it was quite interesting to see some of the projects Malaysia had done. There is a lot of lessons taught here that I can really apply to my career as well. Overall it really motivates me to start trying animation as well and combine it with my graphic design skills.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it was a really busy week as there are a lot of workshops and I have to focus on my final year project. It was a little chaotic and hard to follow but still it was really helpful and insightful. It really helps the student to get prepared for the industry.
