23-8-2021/ Week 1 MIB, Format

For week 1, we were briefed on the upcoming projects we will be working on for this module. We were given 5 different project option to choose from which includes:

1. Healthify
2. SUGOI
Fertility Website Project
4. Tomorrow Burger
5. Food In The City

We then started choosing the projects we wanted to work on and form groups with other classmates. The project that I have chosen is Food In The City. Which focuses mainly on urban agriculture.


30-8-2021/ Week 2 Design Thinking

For week 2, we mainly focuses on design thinking. Design thinking is where we put ourselves into other people's shoe and understand their pain points. It is a human-centered approach which is uses as a way to identify the main problem and how to solve it.

In our groups, we were asked to do some basic research on the project we were working on. In the end the research info's were compiled in a Miro board.

6-9-2021/ Week 3 Personas and Survey

On week 3, we focused on creating the personas and also the survey questions. We have to create 3 different personas and we will only work on the questions once the personas are finalized.

13-9-2021/ Week 4 Personas and Survey Improvement

After receiving the feedback, we then went back to the personas and did the necessary improvement before we continue working on the survey questions. After we have finalized our personas, we started testing the survey questions by putting ourselves in the personas shoe and play their role in answering the questions. Once we have finish testing it, it is time to send the survey out to the public.

20-9-2021/ Week 5 Survey analysis

After receiving the feedback, we then went back to the personas and did the necessary improvement before we continue working on the survey questions. After we have finalized our personas, we started testing the survey questions by putting ourselves in the personas shoe and play their role in answering the questions. Once we have finish testing it, it is time to send the survey out to the public.

This week we also met with the WBU Lecturers and students to have a icebreaking session and also presents our progress and ideas to them.

27-9-2021/ Week 6 Survey analysis

This week we continue to further refine our user journey map and started sketching ideas for how the product may look like. We then presented our progress to another lecturer. In the end the lecturer said the ideas were interesting but we should consider the further details of the product such as the size, material etc.

4-10-2021/ Week 7 Gantt Chart

This week we started working on the Gantt chart to keep everything more organized. We started distributing the work evenly in the group, listing out the task, timeline, and plan what need to be done week by week. I also started working on the logos for the brand.

11-10-2021/ Week 8 Study Week

It's study week but I continued to work on the logos and showed the progress to my groupmates. We then chose a few logos to further refine and develop them before going to the final stage.

18-10-2021/ Week 9 Consultation

We presented our progress to the lecturers and proceed to further refine them.

We finalized our art direction as well as the logo and will be starting to work on poster design and social media post as well.

FEEDBACK

Week 2

Specific Feedback
  • The basic information research are fine but we need to look more into articles and papers about the statistic and demographics on urban agriculture.
  • Try to find research that are conducted in malaysia instead of other countries.

Week 3

Specific Feedback
  • The 3 personas are very similar in terms of their pain points, motivations etc. We need to make sure they are all distinctive and different so we know who exactly are we talking to.
  • If the personas are not accurate, the survey questions will not be as well. So we have to finalized the personas first before working on the questions.

Week 4

Specific Feedback
  • include your research and interview questions and everything in proposal
  • Design slides do reflect the persona
  • The customer journey map can be further improved in terms of content

Week 5

Specific Feedback
  • Make sure you summarized your research report so it's easier for people to understand when you present.

Week 6

Specific Feedback
  • The idea sketches are interesting, but make sure you think about the important details of your product, for example the size of the product, the materials, the price etc.

Week 7

Specific Feedback
  • Before we start working on the design, create a Gantt chart first, it will make everything more organized and keep us on the same page.

  • The overall logo concepts are great but it is not well executed yet
  • Some of the shape and elements does not look like it represents what your rationale is 

Week 10

Specific Feedback
  • All the designs need to be consistent. Make sure to use all the main colors to all graphic design outcomes
  • Needs more research on aquaponic and how it works. Currently the product doesn't seem to demonstrate how it works properly. Make sure to write down key words to help the build design

Week 11

Specific Feedback
  • Capsule aquaponic seemed to have a very weak wireframe to hold the weight, and needed a description of what type of material that is gonna be used and the price range. The Hexagon product seems interesting but doesn't seem to be realistic as the use of hexagon aquariums is not common. Need to show the scale and how it works and if it could be stacked, how it would look. Could also create a variation using the same concept of hexagon but using rectangles.

Week 12

Specific Feedback
  • The size of the product is too small and will not be able to consistently feed the user. With the current size the user will only be able to harvest and eat what they grew about 2 or 3 times a year. The research we currently have showed a small size aquarium is only capable of small scale vegetation.

Week 13

Specific Feedback
  • The collaterals, website and other designs don't seem to be consistent. Make sure to follow the art direction board and use the same elements for all the design.
  • Based on the email received from the aquaponic company from czech, the product could produce enough vegetation and could expand more even in small size. Make sure to add the copy of the email in miro.
  • As the 3D file of the product is too big, use 2D renders of the product in the advert video 

Week 14

Specific Feedback
  • Make sure to go back to journey map to see everything has been carried out based on it, make final presentation slides.




REFLECTION

Week 1

I'm feeling very excited on the project when I hear that we will be working with students from another university. I just love to work with people from different background and communicating, sharing our ideas and thoughts together to create something.


Week 2

I'm the kind of person who doesn't really do much research before actually designing something. So this class about design thinking is very important for me. To remind me how important design thinking is and how does the process looks like.

Week 3

    Our team started working on the personas and then the survey questions. But after receiving some feedback, we have quite a lot to improve for the personas.

      Week 4

      Surprisingly our team really struggled on the personas. I never expect it to be this hard and we have been working and improving it for a week. Finally we are able to finalized the personas this week and proceed to test the survey questions before sending it out to the public.

      Week 5

      It was quite a great experience meeting with the lecturers and students from WBU. With the current pandemic situation it's just nice to be able to see and talk to people from another country. I'm feeling very excited to work with them for this project and hopefully create something great.

      Week 6

      Even though it was a short presentation/ consultation, the feedback we received were very helpful and it gave us a clearer direction on how to proceed with the project.

      Week 7

      This week we started working on the Gantt chart to keep everything more organized. It was very necessary because everything is very messy and it'll be hard for us to work efficiently. We started distributing the work evenly in the group, listing out the task, timeline, and plan what need to be done week by week. I also started working on the logos for the brand.

      Week 8

      Week 9

      I do agree with what the lecturers had said about the logo, some of them are not well executed yet. There are better ways to present certain ideas that I had. But I have to kindly disagree with one of the feedback which was where I explained that I used a shape where it can be seen as both a fish and a leaf. The lecturer said it doesn't look like them so maybe I can try to make it more obvious. But I don't think a logo have to be so obvious, it's better to keep it abstract and keep the audience guessing. As long as it presents the right first impression and the rationale behind it it's good enough.

      Week 10

      The posters are taking way longer than I expected. I really have to make sure it gets done asap so I can proceed to other task.

      Week 11

      We have the concept for the product but we did not really have enough research and data to help us prove this would work. Which is not really a good thing because these are the things we need to prepare for the clients. So that when we present the concept, we have all the evidence of why this would work and it would help us convince the client.

      Week 12

      In some way it was a little frustrating because we spent a very long time it's just not really going as smoothly as we thought it would. We are a little behind as well in terms of the project timeline.

      Week 13

      After looking at what we have done for the branding together, we realized it's not really consistent yet. We are introducing some elements that were not mentioned in the art direction board so we had to rework on some of them. All these happened due to miscommunication within the team and not sticking closely to the art direction board.

      Week 14

      This week we have finished the branding part of the brand. Now we need the final renders of the product to proceed with other tasks such as animation. It has been a long project and honestly I'm feeling exhausted. But we are very close to the end and we just have to keep pushing for a little while.
