Today the school of Bioscience students presented their proposal of their product

30/4/2021 Week 5

Our design team presented a few mood board of the design themes to the bioscience students. We then finalize which theme to go for and also came up a name for the product together.


Project 1

You are required to design a new happy meal box together with 
its fun fries packaging. The new design should include an
educational information within the design. You need to
propose an idea on what is the message to its target audience.
The packaging design should showcase the knowledge from
previous exercises (box making, label design and thermoforming*)

Packaging design themes


During these pandemic it has been hard for everyone. Especially the front liners who had worked so hard and sacrificed so much for us. I really appreciate them and I hope we all can show some appreciation for them as well. Even just saying a simple thank you would help. This is why I wanted to create a packaging design that shows we appreciate the front liners and also encourage everyone to show their appreciation as well.


Mood board


Before starting the design, I've compiled a few design theme to see which style would fit my theme. I really struggled with this project because I am very bad at illustration and colors, I usually rely on typography but since this packaging is targeted towards children. I have to create a design that are able to capture their attention.

First exploration



At first I wanted to go for a very cartoon style character since kids loves cartoon. I was trying to go for a fun monsters with outfit for each profession but I was very worried that it may sends the wrong message saying the front liners are monsters to I decided to change it to a normal human being. 

Second exploration


I was very confuse and not sure what to do so I went online to look for reference. Also trying to find what are the most important item to represent each front liners profession such as the green helmet for Grab driver. Instead of working on 2 different design for 2 profession I decided to just focuses on 1 which is the grab driver. I have ordered a lot of food during these times so I guess in some way I feel more closer to the Grab driver.


On the side of the box, I have written "To all the HEROES who are currently working hard for Malaysia. Thank you for the time and work you have put into helping others during this insane time. You are noticed and you are SO appreciated. Thank you so much for your bravery and your sacrifices."

Reflection

This semester has been pretty tough especially this module because I am terrible at writing. I had a lot of worries about the project this semester but I'm glad I did it. I have learnt a lot about the researching process, critical thinking and also just how to write better in general.
